On Apríl 1, 2006, in relation to re-organisation of the Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic (ANCLP CR) and to abolishment of the Nature Conservation Autority, The Cave Administration of the Czech Republic, a specific govermental partially self-financing body, was established by the decision of the Ministr of the Environment. Its mission is particulary to protect, conserve and manager show caves, i.e. caves accessible to the general public, in the Czech Republic, to make accessible, protect and manager underground spaces according to the nature conservation needs or the inspection of the state Mining Office Board, to implement measures according to approved management plans in show caves, to carry out research, surveys and inventories, registration and documentacion on caves and other underground spaces for nature conservation purposes, to be involved in professional associations incl. International ones, etc. Units, which had implemented the above activities in the ANCLP CR became a part of the Cave Administration of the Czech Republic.

The Cave Administration of the Czech Republic manager in total 14 show cave systems and its Department of Cave Management carries out technical and expert activities in research, survey and registration including special projects and provides special services to other departments and external institutions. The Cave Administration of the Czech Republic has been not only continuing the implementation of the above tasks, but has also defined its aim to expand its research, survey and documentation activities in the karst and caves on the whole country.
